In 1958, the Yixing Zisha Factory opened to continued producing these wonderful fine pottery wares, and has a commercial showroom that has become a popular tourist destination for many Chinese.

Now we have them to share with you!

Yixing teapots come in many styles from the whimsical, to formal. Yizing teapots have unique brewing qualities and are meant for use with traditional Black and Oolong teas, but can also be used to enjoy Green, white and Red teas. Because of the clay these teapots are made of, the water must be cooled to 185ºF before pouring the water into the pot. Yixing teapots have the unique ability to absorb a the flavor and color of the tea and should never be washed with soap. Instead they should be rinsed out and allowed to air dry. The serious tea drinker will only steep one type of tea as not to corrupt the seasoned pot. Yixing teapots are smaller than their western counterparts, in part because they tend to hold the heat of the tea so it can be enjoyed longer.
